Chapter 1

Sharanya’s POV

I sat quietly in front of the temple steps, my knees pulled to my chest, watching the diya flicker before Mahadev’s idol.

Everything felt so... still. Except me Inside, I was breaking.

> “Why me, Mahadev?”

“Am I really that worthless?”

The tears came without warning. Silent, but hot on my cheeks. I didn’t wipe them away.

> “Did I ask for too much?”

“Just a little peace... a little love. Is that too expensive for someone like me?”

I looked up at the idol—at the fierce, calm face of the destroyer. The one who holds the whole world’s pain. But today, I wasn’t looking at a god.

I was looking at someone I thought loved me back.

And I whispered, my voice barely there,

> “If I deserve this… then maybe I was never meant for happiness.”

Behind me, life moved. Bells rang. Children laughed. The wind danced with dry leaves.

But inside me, there was silence.

And in that silence… I broke again.

I reached my trembling hand to my stomach, gently caressing it, as if the touch could protect the life growing inside me.

> "How could he say this...? How?"

Tears burned in my eyes.

> "He doesn’t deserve you, my dear... He doesn’t..."

I sniffled, trying to hold it all together.

> "But mama does. Mama will take care of you. No one will hurt you, ever. Not while I breathe."

My voice cracked with every word, but I meant every syllable.

I stood up slowly from the temple steps, wiped my tears with the back of my hand, and picked up my small bag. My feet moved on their own—down the stairs, through the dust, onto the lonely road with no destination in mind. Only one thing mattered now.

Mybaby.

I kept walking, one hand on my stomach, the other gripping my bag like it was my anchor to the world. My heart was numb, but my legs carried me forward.

> "He doesn’t deserve you… But I’ll be your everything. I promise, baby…"

That’s when I saw her.

A girl—maybe my age, twenty-one or twenty-two—crossing the road slowly, earphones in, eyes down.

She didn’t see it. But I did. A truck. Speeding. My heart dropped.

> "NO!"

I threw my bag, forgot the pain, forgot myself. I ran.

My feet pounded the road, air cutting my lungs, panic flooding every inch of my body.

I reached her just in time—pushed her hard to the side.

She landed on the footpath, safe.

But me?

I lost balance.

The world spun.

My foot hit the edge of a stone. My body twisted.

CRACK.

A blinding pain burst through my skull.

The ground hit me like a slap from the universe.

Warmth spread across my forehead—then trickled down.

Blood.

Voices around me started to blur. Faces gathered. Someone screamed.

But I couldn’t focus on any of it.

I was lying there, breath shallow, body heavy, vision darkening.

And all I could think of... was you.

My baby.

> "Is my baby... is my baby okay...?"

The last thing I saw—before the world turned black—was my trembling hand reaching for my stomach. And then... silence.

Author’s POV

A small crowd had gathered. People stood around the fallen girl, murmuring, some pulling out their phones, others trying to help. One woman bent down, patting her cheek gently.

> “Beta... open your eyes…”

“She’s bleeding a lot…”

“Call an ambulance, hurry!”

In the middle of the panic, Sia ( The girl sharanya saved from the truck) came running—her breath sharp, her mind blank. She had no idea who this girl was.

They had never spoken. Never crossed paths.

But this girl—this stranger—had just saved her life.

Pushed her out of the way of a speeding truck... and taken the fall herself.

> Why?

Why would someone do that for me?

Her eyes locked on the bleeding figure lying on the ground. Her legs almost gave out.

> “Please—let me through!” she cried, forcing her way forward.

She dropped to her knees beside the girl, not caring about the blood or the stares.

Something inside her cracked wide open.

> “Di… please… open your eyes… please…”

She didn’t even know why she called her that.

But it came from somewhere deep—like this girl had become part of her life in just one terrifying second.

> “You don’t even know me… and you still… why would you do this? Please don’t go silent on me. Please…”

Tears streamed down Sia’s face as she gently tapped the girl’s cheek again.

> “Can someone call the ambulance?!” she shouted. “NOW!!”

A man answered, “It’s on the way!”

But all Sia could hear was the pounding of her heart.

All she could see… was the girl who gave her a second chance at life — lying there, possibly losing hers.

And Sia couldn’t let that happen.

Just then, a car halted nearby and a woman stepped out in panic.

Nandhini Rathore.

Her eyes scanned the crowd until they landed on her daughter—kneeling beside an unconscious, bleeding girl on the pavement.

> “Sia...!” Nandhini rushed forward. “What happened?!”

Her voice was laced with fear and concern.

Sia looked up, her face soaked with tears, her hands trembling as they rested gently on the stranger’s head.

> “Mom... please! Call the ambulance! Save her!”

“Please… she saved me, she didn’t even know me… look at her… please, Mom...”

Nandhini’s eyes widened as she saw the blood, the stillness, the soft rise and fall of a girl barely holding on.

Before she could respond, the sharp sound of a siren cut through the chaos.

The ambulance arrived.

Two paramedics jumped down and hurried toward them with a stretcher. People backed away as Sia refused to move from her side.

> “Let them help, beta,” Nandhini said softly, placing a hand on her daughter’s shoulder.

Sia nodded weakly and stood up, her eyes never leaving the girl who had saved her life.

The paramedics lifted Sharanya carefully. Blood still seeped from her forehead, but her pulse was faint—still fighting. As they loaded her into the ambulance, Sia turned to her mother, voice broken.

> “Mom… I can’t let her go alone... she saved me. I have to be with her.”

Nandhini looked at her daughter — her soft-hearted child, crying for a stranger who had protected her like family. She nodded gently.

> “We’ll go with her.”

And just like that, the doors of the ambulance closed — with Sharanya inside, fighting for her life……and Sia beside her, holding on to her hand — a hand she had only just met, but would never forget.

Outside the ICU, the atmosphere was heavy.

Sia sat on the bench, her hands cold, heart pounding. Her mother, Nandhini Rathore, stood beside her, silent and tense.

Inside, doctors were treating Sharanya — the stranger who risked her life… who pushed Sia out of danger without a second thought.

A few moments later, the ICU doors opened, and the doctor stepped out.Sia instantly stood up.

> “Doctor… is she okay?” she asked, voice shaking with concern.

The doctor gave a soft nod.

> “She and the baby… both are out of danger now. But she needs complete rest. Any more stress or strain might harm her condition.”

Nandhini froze.

> “B-Baby? She’s… pregnant?” she asked, shocked.

The doctor confirmed with a gentle nod.

> “Yes. She’s in her early months. Fortunately, the baby wasn’t affected… but only if she rests completely from now. She may regain consciousness in a few hours. You can see her then.”

And with that, the doctor left.

Sia turned slowly toward her mother, her eyes wide with disbelief, tears brimming again.

> “She’s pregnant... Mom… and still... she ran to save me. Why would she do that? Why would she risk her life—her baby’s life—for a stranger?”

Her voice broke as she collapsed into her mother’s arms.

Nandhini wrapped her arms around her daughter tightly, stroking her back with steady, calming hands.

> “Shhh… Sia… calm down, beta...”

Sia clung to her mother like a child, sobbing without holding back — crying for someone she had never known… yet felt deeply connected to. It felt like fate. Like destiny had brought them together in the most painful yet powerful way.

🌸 Sharanya’s POV🌸

When I opened my eyes, I found myself lying on a hospital bed. The white ceiling above me blurred, and for a moment, I couldn’t remember where I was… or why. > What happened to me? How did I end up here…?

I looked around — the room was quiet. Empty. No one in sight. My head felt heavy, throbbing with pain, and my vision wavered. But then suddenly — my heart stopped.

> “My baby...” Is my baby safe...?

Panic rushed through me. My breathing grew uneven. I wanted to jump off the bed and run to find a doctor, anyone — but my body didn’t cooperate. My head throbbed harder, the world around me spinning. Just then, a nurse entered the room — calm and gentle, walking toward me.

With whatever strength I had left, I lifted one hand to my stomach and asked in a weak, trembling voice:

> “I-Is my baby okay…?”

She leaned closer, gave me a warm smile, and placed her hand softly on mine.

> “Yes. Your baby is safe. But you need to rest properly, okay? No more stress… it can affect the baby.”

Tears filled my eyes as I whispered, voice breaking,

> “Thank you… thank you so much… for saving my baby…”

She gently ran her fingers through my hair like a mother would and said softly,

> “If you need anything, just press the button. Take rest, sweetheart.” And then she left, closing the door quietly behind her. I placed my hand on my tummy again, whispering through my tears:

> “Mama is here, baby… nothing will happen to you. I promise.”

Sharanya’s Flashback – Her POV💔

I sat in my room, staring blankly at the wall, heart aching with a weight too heavy to carry.

> Tomorrow… everything will change. Tomorrow is my wedding. Just the thought of it made my chest tighten painfully. That’s when my cousin Ananya walked in, her face full of concern.

> “Shaaru… are you sure about this? About marrying him?”

“How can you forget your love?”

I looked at her, my throat tight.

> “I don’t know if it’s right or wrong, Ananya. But I can’t forget the way they insulted my father…” My voice cracked. I lowered my gaze to hide my tears.

> “I loved him… Arav. He was my first love. My everything. But…” Ananya sat beside me quietly. She knew everything — every secret, every tear I had shed over him.

> “But what, Shaaru? You really think you can move on that easily?” I gave a sad smile.

> “It’s been a year… since we broke up. A year of silence. A year of trying to convince myself that I don’t love him anymore. But it still hurts.”Tears filled my eyes again as I continued.

> “When my family found out about me and Arav, they didn’t oppose love… they opposed him.”

> “He had no job… no proper family. His parents were separated. He was already a burden on the people he stayed with — his mother’s relatives.”

> “Still, I begged my father to meet them once. Just once…”My voice trembled with the memory.

> “He went. For me. But they… they insulted him. Told him to get out. That they wouldn’t accept this marriage. Said Arav was already a weight on them — they didn’t need a ‘shameless’ girl running behind him.” Ananya’s eyes welled up too, her hand gently touching mine.

> “They said… ‘Teach your daughter some manners. She’s shameless for chasing a boy like this.’”nI took a deep breath and wiped my tears.

> “After that day… my father never smiled the same way again.”

> “And I… I couldn’t fight anymore. Not at the cost of his dignity.

I clutched the bedsheet tightly as silent tears rolled down my cheeks.

Ananya sat beside me, gently rubbing my back to calm me down.Suddenly, a voice interrupted from behind.

> “Shaaaruuu…” I quickly wiped my tears and turned around — it was my mother.

She walked closer with a soft smile, placing a warm hand on my shoulder.

> “You’re still awake, bachi? It’s already late… try to sleep. Tomorrow is a big day for you.”

I forced a small smile and nodded.

Just as I opened my mouth to reply, my phone rang. Mom glanced at the wall clock.

> “1 a.m.?” she chuckled softly “Looks like your future husband can’t sleep without talking to you…” She smiled again and walked out of the room. The door clicked shut.

I turned to Ananya to ask her to pick it up — but her face was pale, breath stuck in her throat.

> “Ananya… what happened? Why do you look so tense?”

“Who’s calling?” I asked, now feeling fear creep in. Her lips trembled.

> “A-Arav…” she whispered, eyes wide. The name echoed in my ears.

> Arav…
